Why Watercooler?

About the Girl
My name is Jen, and I’ve been blogging since early 2003. Where oh where does the time go? I was born on July 27, 1980 and have lived near Vancouver, BC Canada my entire life. Currently I live in the Kitsilano area of town with my husband and dog. If you want to know more, a good place to start is my 100 things. For other random tidbits about me, check out the memerific category.
I’ve had popular posts on dating and some crazy roommates, and lately I write mostly about food, cooking, travel and money. Total narcissism at its finest. But isn’t that what self-publishing is all about?
I don’t write about work much, because people there are apt to read it – and we all know what happens when you blog about work. However, it does take up a large part of my life, which just goes to show the incomplete picture you’re really getting.
People who don’t know me outside my blog probably don’t have a very good idea of who I am, but I’m always up for meeting new people and making new friends – which of course is the best way to get to know the girl behind the entries. So pipe up and say hi! I promise I don’t bite! I’ve also been known to show up at local blogger meetups and conferences, so if you’re going, and would love to see me, drop me a line and I’ll do my best to make it out.
About the Blog
I’ve been at worldwidewatercooler.com since March 2005. Before that I was at movable peechie (a movable-type blog), and before that I had a blogspot domain. Most of my archives are online. I started blogging without categories, so that particular form of organization is still in the works. Hence the huge number of posts in the “Uncategorized” category.
So… why the WorldWideWaterCooler? I read the phrase somewhere, and loved it. I’m sorry I didn’t make a note of where I found it – if I remembered I would credit the clever monkey who coined it. If I stole it from you – sorry, and thanks!
WWWC pretty much sums up my attitude towards blogging. Originally, the concept was that if I had co-workers that I actually liked, the things I posted would be what I’d normally talk to them about around the water cooler. But I’ve moved on from the job I had at that point (where I did grow to like some of my co-workers), and now work primarily solo – so the water cooler concept is even more important to me. Thus comments are open, and highly encouraged.
In an effort to battle spam, the comment moderation filters are set pretty high. If your comment doesn’t show up right away, it’s probably been queued. I try to get them all posted within 24 hours – but if I’m out of town for a few days it may take longer.
Techno-bits
This blog is currently powered by Word Press. I started off using blogger, then went to movable type. I switched to Word Press with the new domain, and I love it.
The domain was effortlessly purchased from dotster.com, and is hosted by site5.com. I’ve found great value with both, and have had no problems with either of them.
