The prophet Mohammad loved cats, which is a major reason there are so many kicking around. Once you get out of the cities, the driving isn't that bad, actually. I drove to the desert, and there just weren't very many cars to worry about. Mind you, the last 200 km were on a highway with only one-car-width of pavement, but it was never particularly harrying.
