Best Quote Ever regarding the recent coupling of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes:

They should totally play Take My Breath Away at their wedding. Except that Katie will probably want the Jessica Simpson version, and Tom will be all, “No, the Berlin version,” and Katie will be all, “Who?”

I totally peed a little from laughing so hard when I read it.

Jacked from Joelle, because I am bored to tears. It’s hard to hang around a workplace you’re exiting where you aren’t making any real contributions, and pretend to look busy.

My apartment smells like 80% of my ex boyfriends.

No, I didn’t manage to get them all over for some wild orgy. Nor would I want to.

My roommate’s cleaning up a bunch of his stuff so the packers have an easier time on Saturday, and he managed to dump out half a bottle of Eternity by Calvin Klein.

The smell had mostly dissipated by morning, but it was still good to get out of the house and away from the smelly memories.

I am officially sick and tired of living life without a car. So on a tempermental whim last night, I braved the credit department at my bank, and phoned to ask how much of a car loan I qualify for.

Their answer: way more than I actually want.

Dangerous.

So now I have to weigh my options. I’ve come up with four so far.

1. Do nothing. Continue on the way I have for the past few years relying on friends, family, transit, taxis & the occasional rental car.
Pro: Most affordable option.
Con: Currently driving me INSANE.

2. Scooter.
Pro: Cheap to buy, cheap on gas & insurance, fun and kicky!
Con: Useless for carrying anything other than myself, useless in the rain, unable to travel on the highway.

3. Buy a car. Something reasonably priced and reliable - nothing flashy.
Pro:I’d have a car!!! I can visit my family with a minimum of hassle, I can go to Ikea, I can not ride the smelly bus!
Con: Most expensive option. Not exactly sure yet what the parking situation will be at the new job (could be very expensive/inconvenient). Gas isn’t getting any cheaper either.

4. Join the CAN Car Co-op.
Pro: Accessibility to a car if/when I really need one without the expense of actually owning. Also receive 15% off a Transit pass for regular commuting with CAN membership.
Con: Still wouldn’t own the car, using it is subject to availability. Taking the cars overnight gets quite expensive. Lots of cars near my work, none convenient to my home.

And now I ask for your assvice. For the locals, I live about a block from the Brentwood Skytrain station, and will be working around Georgia & Denman. I’d also welcome input from anyone who’s got experience dealing with CAN. What Would Jesus You Do?

Shiz poses an interesting conundrum today. She had no idea that it was election day. She knew the election was coming up at some point… just not that it was today.

Some of us do not have/watch tv, and don’t like/read the trashy local newspapers. You cannot rely on media alone to inform us of things.

I was trying to think about how one would ever realize that an election was coming, without watching the local news or reading the local papers. I myself am a self-admitted media whore, so I typically devour that stuff (whether I believe it or not is an entirely different story).

So I tried thinking about any other ways the election has been promoted…

Candidate signs? I suppose those are a hint, but “I didn’t even know an election was CALLED - even though I saw signs everywhere, thinking it was advance campaigning - until someone mentioned it in passing.” I guess they don’t exactly have the date on them…

Internet News? No… that’s just an electronic reprint of the newspapers.

The bajillion flyers that were dropped in mailboxes? I guess a lot of people just throw those out like so much junk mail without actually looking at what’s on them.

Telephone Pollsters? Not everyone gets called. I only got one phone call through the entire campain - usually I end up getting 6 or 7 at least.

Word of Mouth? I guess that all depends on whose mouths you’re listening to.

I’m officially stumped.

Are there any other ways to publicize an election? Should there be? I know a ton of my co-workers had no idea (until I informed them) that they were voting on BC-STV - so obviously the word is just NOT GETTING OUT.

At what point does the issue change from inadequate promotion/publicity/awareness to one of a person’s choice to be ingnorant? (Note: Shiz appears to be far from ignorant - I wish that were the case for so many others I know.)

Today’s provincial election day in Beautiful BC, so to any Canadian citizens who’ve lived here for the last 6 months: PLEASE GO VOTE. You have until 8:00PM PDT tonight.

Find your local riding and voting place, as well as registration information at elections.bc.ca

You’ll also have the opportunity to vote for change in our current electoral system. You can either vote Yes or No for the Single Transferrable Vote - info available at the Citizens’ Assembly on Electoral Reform website. There’s also a nifty bit of flash (about 3 minutes long) explaining how STV would work.

Remember, the privilege of democracy comes with certain responsibilities. One of those is participation in elections. So show up, vote for the candidate and system that you feel are right, or spoil your ballots entirely. Just please go and be counted. Your future thanks you.

Check it out, the top 50 things every foodie should do!

Admittedly, I haven’t done many of them. Mine include:

3) Dismember a chicken - not as difficult as it looks. The secret is having a really kickass cleaver and a good, strong, unapologetic chop!

13) Learn how to make a dry martini - the benefits of bartending school.

25) Sniff a white truffle - this one only half counts, because it wasn’t a truffle, but truffle oil.

29) Pod fresh peas - I even grew them my own self

33) Catch your own dinner - actually, I fished at 5:00am and had trout & eggs for breakfast. The idea is the same though.

40) Bake a loaf of bread - no breadmaker cheating! If the weather stays this icky, I may do it again sometime this week. Few things beat fresh homemade bread.

48) Milk a cow - family friends used to have a dairy farm. It’s a pretty cool sensation, but unpasteurized milk tastes “udderly” disgusting (ha ha).

Looks like I have some serious catching up to do in order to maintain my self-declared foodie status!

I had a really kickass weekend away.

And now, appropriately, since every action has an equal and opposite reaction, I feel like absolute ass.

Happy Monday!

Apparently this is a good week for gettin’ in where ya fit in. First Devon, then dearheart, now me!

I’ve had this particular iron in the fire for quite a few months, and now the details are all finalized. Start date: June 1.

Without giving away the employer, I’m going to be working for a sports organization, coordinating equipment & coaching, the “new athlete to this sport” program, the “corporate teambuilding through this sport” program, and other random things as they come up. Anyone wanna suggest an obscure sport or activity that I can use as a reference for cryptoblogging? How ’bout a contest - the entry I decide to use, gets a prize of some sort. I’d totally use Astronauting, but that’s already taken.

The new job location is fabulous and gorgeous, the work is interesting and challenging, and so far all the people I’ve met that I’ll be working with are fabulous.

I’m SO FREAKIN’ EXCITED!

Irons in the fire take a loooong time to heat up.

But you still need to strike when they’re hot!

Yes, it’s cryptic. Sorry. Hopefully I can explain more soon.

But it’s safe to say that I will spend the next few hours FREAK-ING-OUT!

I discovered today that “Sexology” is actually a heading in the phonebook.

Ya know… just in case you were wondering.

This actually happened last Friday, but it STILL bugs me, so I figured I’d toss it on the blog and see if the rage goes away.

I was stopped at a Burnaby intersection, in the passenger seat of a co-workers car as we were on our way to a softball game (Northbound on Gilmore at Dawson, near the skytrain station). We’re both 20-somethings driving in his hugely battered piece of shit car. Nothing auspicious about us. I don’t think any other traffic was waiting at the intersection for that particular light.

A gay (male) couple approached the intersection on foot, and were crossing in front of us. How do I know they were gay? They were holding hands as they walked up to the intersection. THEN FOR THE 10 FEET THEY WALKED PAST US THEY LET GO OF EACHOTHERS HANDS!!! It wasn’t a “gotta get something out of my pocket” or “adjust hand position” or “brush off sweaty palms” moment - it was an obvious moment of “let’s not be so overt about the fact that we’re a couple.”

Seriously. I was so angry. They resumed holding hands once they got onto the sidewalk, but GODDAMN. I wanted to suggest that next time they felt they had to “hide” their relationship they go to the other extreme and start making out on the hood of the goddamn car until the light turned green. I’d have been happier that way - and not just because gay porn is hot!

LOVE IS LOVE PEOPLE! FUCK!

Phew. I think I’m done now.

So I’m doing my accounting homework at the very last minute. Again.

And as usual, I feel like there’s a big gap in my level of understanding. It’s very much like learning a foreign language through immersion. You get the general gist of things… but when you go to put the words together yourself, it doesn’t quite work out.

I’ve always tended to do things that I have something of a natural ability for. It means that I haven’t actually ever learned how to learn or how to study. I hear, I read, I absorb - and it all makes sense in my mind. And now I’ve undertaken something that doesn’t immediately make sense.

I’m right about at the point where I’d typically give up.

But I haven’t actually even tried yet. I left lecture early. I didn’t actually read the chapter (though I did skim it). And now I’m trying to do the assignment the night before it’s due.

That tactic has always sufficed before. And suddenly it doesn’t. And even though it shouldn’t, it’s making me feel stupid.

Stupid for being upset about not having some innate ability for a totally new subject.
Stupid for not recognizing that and not immediately doing what I can to compensate.
Stupid for not challenging myself earlier, so I know better how to deal with these situations.
Stupid for wasting so much time on wasting time, and not making the things that matter a priority (this doesn’t just apply to school).

Time to stop being stupid.

Did you hug your mom yesterday? I did.

But now, the allergies have gotten the better of me. I did not sleep. And now I am home. For now I’m going back to bed - but leave a kind comment!

Actually, I’ll probably be really bored by the time 1:00pm rolls around, so everyone who leaves a comment today gets a response! How’s that for a Monday Treat!
