Today felt like I was wrapped up completely in the perfect shade of Autumn.

After having way too much to drink last night at a couple different halloween parties, I was extremely grateful for that extra hour of sleep.

Then I dashed downtown for a lovely brunch (that I could unfortunately only pick at - see point above) and a FANTASTIC theatre performance.

If you like musicals, and improv, and independent theatre, definitely check out APPLAUSE! Musicals in Concert. I know I plan on making it a habit to attend.

Also, I got a gigantic dose of the warm fuzzies, when g.girl asked me to be one of her bridesmaids :) Glee! Now the hunt begins for the perfect green dress….

After the performance I meandered my way down Granville towards the skytrain, stopped at Starbucks for a Soy Latte (the first thing besides water that I’ve managed to comfortably suck down today), and made my way home with a warm beverage in hand and the crisp weather making my ears tingle.

Now I’m at home, in my pjs, just hangin’ out with myself, preparing to go to bed early. And (barring the hangover) I can’t think of a better way I could’ve spent the day.

Ok, wrong kind of earnest. I decided on a “somewhat but not too controversial” subject for my 2nd prepared speech. For my evaluation, I was told that it was an “eloquent and well-written argument for a controversial subject.”

Of course my voice wasn’t very convincing - my speaking talent is still pretty iffy, but at least I can write, right?

Speech content after the jump.

Does any of this sound familiar to some of my fellow “Wet Coast” residents?

But the very worst part? The way people drive here in the rain. Ninety percent of the drivers seem to fall into one of two categories: (1) the “drive 20 mph over the speed limit like you would any other day, don’t bother to turn your headlights on, and pretend it’s not even raining” people, and (2) the “slow down to 15 mph, grip the steering wheel with white knuckles of death, and drive as though the world is coming to an end” people. The number one people area always crashing into the number two people, and that just makes traffic that much worse for the handful of absolutely perfect drivers out there like me.

Yah, I thought so too.

Strangely enough though, that’s from the lovely Martha, who lives in Phoenix.

PHOENIX Y’ALL! It doesn’t even get actual weather! Just sun. And apparrently a bit of rain. THEY HAVE AN EXCUSE.

In Vancouver? It. Always. Rains. A lot. We are internationally known for the vast number of days of the year where precipitation falls from the sky. WE HAVE NO EXCUSE! We should be GOOD at driving in the rain. And yet, we are not.

Actually, I am. What the hell is wrong with the rest of you?

So apparrently giving in to the Snickers gods, and throwing caution to the wind (or at least, in the general direction of a gigantic piece of pepperoni and sausage pizza), and consuming enough 2-bite brownies to choke a pony, and deciding to upsize to that extra large Mountain Dew will cause one to gain weight afterall.

Huh. Who’da thunk it?

It must be a sign.

I’ve mentioned before the whole health kick I’m on lately.

Today, I had a SERIOUS craving for a Snickers. They’re $1.25 in the vending machine. I rifled through my wallet and the change jar in my desk and came up with a grand total of $1.21.

I’m sure I could hassle my coworkers for a nickel (some of them would relish the opportunity and be more than willing to aid and abbett in my dietary “cheating”). But I won’t.

I’ll take it as a sign that I really shouldn’t chow down on a Snickers this afternoon - and try to dissuade the craving by burning my mouth on my green tea instead.

My 2nd speech is one themed “Be In Earnest” wherein I speak non-offensively about something I have extended knowledge and opinions on. Uh huh.

From the instructions:

Choose a subject of current interest on which you have definite convictions. The world is full of controversial subjects, and you certainly have strong feelings about some of them. Your topic could be anything from taxes to street cleaning, arms control to barking dogs. Just be sure that you have a definite point of view, and then prepare a protest, appeal, or call for action that promotes your viewpoint.

We also received an email from the group leader today that asked us to pick a non-offensive subject, and remain respectful. I can do respectful - but non-offensive? I’m doing this class with a bunch of very conservative people. Any current issues I may have strong convictions about likely run counter to anything that anyone in the room would be comfortable with. Anyone have any ideas?

I have come to the conclusion that there are only two kinds of dates.

Good ones, and Bad ones.

And I just had a “good one” and it’s making me smile more than it probably should. And I’m ok with that.

But if you know me, you should call me sometime this Monday to Wednesday and talk some sense into me. Thanks :)

Oy vey. And I said keep me away from shopping.

Instead, I ventured south to Bellis Fair mall today with a few friends to get my target fix and stock up on a few necessities that are only available south of the border.

And I am SHOPPED OUT. My feet hurt from so much mall walking.

I think I might just have myself a bath, and slather on my new Tutti Dolce Creme Brulee Body Souflee (from Bath & Body works) and jump into bed and dream about dessert.

Apologies for the shitty content - but I’ve managed to actually write every day this month, and wanted to get something down for the day.

Yay! I am about to enter the world of extended sloth!

I just won a laptop in today’s raffle at work - I’m totally going to do everything from bed now.

Anyone have recommendations for a wireless network solution? I’ve got two computers that need to be hardwired into the hub (because I am lazy and too cheap to upgrade them to wireless), and now this laptop that I’d like to have wireless. Also, bonus points if anyone can point me towards a “network for dummies” so I can use my existing computer as some sort of server in order to access the same content on both machines. Is that even possible?

Specs after the jump.

I gave my very first Toastmasters speech last night. I think it went well.

Unfortunately, they evaluate on technique and delivery rather than content. My content was the highlight of the speech - but they saw right through it and tore a strip off my speaking ability (which has seriously dwindled over the past years).

Regardless, I didn’t faint or throw up or lose my place completely, so it was a moderate success.

Actual content is after the jump if you’re interested.

There was a period of time where I took really good care of myself. Ate well, did yoga once a week, aerobics/weights 3 other days a week, got enough sleep… I felt GOOD.

That, of course, did not last long. It all went out the window, and in turn, I’ve felt like absolute ASS for the past few months.

Today I went to yoga again for the first time since July (yay for lunchtime yoga at the office gym!) and I feel FAAAAAAAAAAABULOUS. Note to self: wake the fuck up, dummy! Take better care of yourself!

Oh, and Note to dude fully decked out in the Lululemon: I don’t care how much you paid for that shirt and those pants, cuz your Warrior Two couldn’t fight his way out of a wet paper bag.
