So today doesn’t suck quite so badly after all. I bought 3 tickets for the computer raffle at work, and won myself a PC. It’s not as good as the one I’ve got at home now, but it only cost the $25 I spent on the tickets. I wonder what I should do with it….

Specs in the extended entry.

Oy. Can today just be over already? Thanks.

In other news, I’m still in need of another pair (or 3) of helping hands for my hotdog sale this Sunday Aug. 1 from about 10am until 3-ish at IGA in New West. You’ll get free hotdogs, and the pleasure of my company. Oh, and that warm fuzzy feeling from doing something good.

Please?

Although we’ve got the internet at our disposal at work, we’re under strict orders to not surf the net unless we’re on a break. And breaks are being monitored too - just in case you were wondering.

Not that I mind - A company’s gotta do what they gotta do to ensure that their employees are being productive. Unfortunately, it’s obvious that a few are ruining it for the many, meaning no “brain breaks” for me during the day, and definitely no catching up on the blogroll on company time.

On a totally unrelated note, I got my new drivers’ license today. I got the picture done Monday night, so I’m pretty impressed that it was in my mailbox this morning. I’m even more impressed that the picture doesn’t suck.

And I found a great recipe for a blueberry smoothie. It’s in the extended entry.

Only 4 more days, and hellmonth is officially over for me. I hope August is a little less insane.

The birthday was all sorts of good, and it just doesn’t stop!

I already had the “family birthday” on Sunday, so I wasn’t expecting too much more pomp and circumstance through the week.

I arrived to well-wishes and a card at work, and the day seemed to fly right by. Also, thanks for all the birthday greetings on the blog. It’s nice when the lurkers pipe up a bit to say “hi” on a special day :)
After that, I went for dinner with Brian to Steamworks (mmm… frambozen) then we went to Storyeum. I highly recommend it if you’re at all into museum-ey type stuff, and are interested in the history of BC. My only complaints: The show was a teensy bit cheesy - it’ll obviously be entertaining to the classes of school kids who will be their target market once the tourist season dies down; and the accoustics could be better. There was much too much echo bouncing off of the concrete walls and floor, making it hard to clearly hear the actors at times. Or maybe I’m just getting old.

I turned into a pumpkin after the show, so we headed home and I crashed pretty much instantly.

Today I went to amazon.ca to cash in the gift certificate I received for my birthday from my wonderful friend peanut, and am expecting a package in the next 6-10 days full of all sorts of goodies. Not only did I have the gift certificate, but an additional $5 off coupon came in my mastercard bill today, and I had overpayed my amex. It’s been waiting for a chance like this to top off some shopping.

I got this and this and this - and I might owe $0.50 on my credit card still after it’s all said and done.

Tomorrow (because the week’s been so busy) is birthday lunch day with the girls from work, and I still have a birthday drink to look forward to from sn0wangel on Saturday night (subliminal message: come to pub night!). I do believe that will be the official end to the festivities - but it’s been quite a pleasant run.

And now, grocery shopping. Life returns to normal much too quickly.

It’s my birthday. As of publish time, I’ve been on the planet as a non-parasitic humanoid for 24 whole years.

But I’m not going to party like it’s my birthday - I’m way too busy. The best present for me will be relaxing. So no ladies’ night for now.

But it’s still my birthday, so feel free to shower me with gifts and/or well-wishes. Remember, my birthstone is money, and my favourite colour is large diamonds.

Ok, everyone who said they were interested in attending Ladies’ Night with me at Skybar, it’s this Wednesday the 28th.

Anyone who wants to ride downtown in the Limo can meet at my house (probably around 6:00) - because the company doesn’t do 2-way limo for free, it’ll be transit or shared cab back here.

It’s the day after my birthday! Don’t make me celebrate alone!

What do you do when you know it’s time to move on, but you keep longing for that “one more perfect day” - so you can’t bear to let go quite yet?

Ew.

Now please be warned that this isn’t an “I’m fat” post, but this is my heaviest summer to date. And I seem to have crossed the threshold this year into not handling the heat well at all.

I’m the girl who used to keep the heat on year round, and be able to wear black pants any time I wanted to without much, if any, discomfort in the heat.

Not anymore.

The simple act of sitting is making me sweat. Yesterday I got a horrible case of sunstroke, and it actually knocked me right out. My headache was so bad I couldn’t see straight, and I went home and slept for 10 hours.

I wish it would just rain. Rain for my birthday would be the best present ever. What’re your favourite heat-beating tips?

Howdy Kids!

Who wants something fun and exciting to do on the August long weekend? Never Fear, Pub Night is Here!

I’ll be hosting a Pub Night, as a fundraiser for the Boobies on Saturday July 31st at Frankie G’s Pub in Queensborough. The $12 ticket gets you a Burger & Fries, Beverage (alcoholic or not) of your choice, Musical Bingo, and entry into the door prize draw.

Who needs some lameass door prize you ask? Well there is no lameness here people - among other cool stuff, we’ve got a BRAND NEW GAME CUBE to give away. Now you know you want to come.

There will also be 50/50 and other prize draws (so if you don’t win cash, your ticket may still win *stuff*), and fun fun fun all night long. And, of course, ME!

The party starts at 7:00pm with the main draw likely being shortly after 10:00. Anyone who buys a ticket and can’t stay all night will still be eligible to win the door prizes. Tickets are limited, so if you want yours, email me asap. Hope you can make it out!

I hate falling off the wagon. I always forget just how long it takes to get back on.

This week the MO is going to be making sure I walk or bike to and from work each day. I already missed Monday morning - but I made it this morning, and it’s the goal for the rest of the week.

My other baby step for this week is to drink 1L of water each day at work. I’m pretty good at guzzling the H2O when I’m at home, but I’ll just sit and be parched all day at work, because I’m too lazy to get up and grab some water.

I wanted to tack on the “eating healthier” thing as well, but I’ve got too much unhealthy crap at home that I’m going to finish - so that will start late this week, or early next. Bottom line on that one is that it’s just not in the budget to throw away perfectly good food. I’ll just enjoy it as my “last suppers” of crap. And honestly, it’s not even that bad. It’s just not all that good for me.

Next week we also add getting up earlier, and 3 days a week of the Gym (working back up to 5 days for the week after that).

It’s frustrating picking myself up so slowly - but I’ve just gotta remember that I didn’t get in this state in a day (it’s always a slow, slippery slope down to the bottom), and I’m not going to make a complete turnaround in a day either.

It was SO UNBELIEVABLY NICE to have a weekend filled with the perfect ratio of fun:relaxing:getting shit done. That hasn’t happened in a while.

I really need to get back on the healthy wagon. Last week was a total writeoff. This week isn’t starting out all that great, but at least the water consumption is up - it’s a start. What really needs to come into play again is the exercising. I may be able to squeeze a short workout in tonight before I go out and try to pick something remotely healthy off the Fogg & Suds menu for dinner.

Speaking of which, before I fell off the wagon last week my IBS symptoms had virtually disappeared. Even though I know it plays such a strong part in symptom control, I’m amazed every time it happens. It was strongly emphasized at the end of last week though, when I spent most days pretty bloated. And Sunday’s hangover was extra unpleasant.

Somewhat related to that, I stumbled across an article the other day on Crohn’s disease (which has a strong history in my family), discussing aphthous ulcers. These are the kind of ulcers that wreak havoc on the digestive tract of Crohn’s patients. Until now, I didn’t realize that was the specific type of ulcer that occurred. Regular readers will remember that’s the same type of ulcer I had in my throat a little while back. Considering these ulcers can appear anywhere in the digestive tract of Crohn’s patients (from the mouth, right through the “bottom system”), I’ve been a tad worried.

This has since spurred me in the direction of getting myself a regular doctor. I wish finding one that doesn’t suck wasn’t so damn hard. All I’m looking for is a female doctor in Northwest Burnaby who speaks intelligible English, has reasonable office hours, keeps appointments, respects my decisions to be on or off certain medications and doesn’t preach too much, and has a slightly above average understanding of GI medicine. Is that too much to ask?

UPDATE: Congratulations, dearheart won!

Watch out Jeff Probst - I’ve got a game for you!

I referred earlier to the best party mix cd ever - and I’ll share the titles of the musical goodness here for you.

But I was thinking, let’s make this a little more exciting; let’s make this a contest!

In the extended entry, I’m going to put a lyrical phrase from each song (it’ll be a poignant one, not something obscure like the 3rd line from the 2nd verse), and you guess the answers (title and artist) in the comments.

Some will definitely be easier than others, but they’re all pretty easy to figure out if you know your stuff. Most of them are the first few words of each song, if that helps.

First commenter to get them all correct wins a prize! A copy of the CD, and a beer (or something, if you don’t like beer), courtesy of me.

Good Luck!
