Sadly Lacking

Tuesday, June 15th, 2004

After spending most of 8 hours of my day infront of a slim, stylish, sharp 19″ flat panel, going home to my husky, dusty (although perfectly fine) 17″ flat screen seems somehow dissatisfying.

Now I know why men cheat. Sometimes the grass *is* greener (and each blade more perfectly defined, with amazing shading…..)

Leader’s Debate

Tuesday, June 15th, 2004

I plan on watching the leader’s debate this evening, along with at least a large chunk of the rest of the country, I’m sure.

I did manage to get a sneak preview though. I watched en Francais (with a translator, of course) on cpac yesterday.

I didn’t know that Jack Layton was born in Quebec, and Paul Martin has obviously been practicing his second official language for quite a few years.

It goes without saying that Gilles Duceppe is fluent (and presented some pretty good arguments) - though I’m not sure what his English skills are like, or how that will reflect on his ability to debate successfully tonight. A good debate is all about being quick, both in wit and language.

The highlight of the evening though, was Stephen Harper’s attempt to debate in French. Frankly, he sucks. If you saw the episode of Friends where Joey tries to speak French, it was almost that bad. Also, I think the man must use Botox. His beady little eyes never squinted, and his helmet-coif never moved. But the sounds coming out of his mouth - oh my.

Getting drunk on a Sunday night is rarely a good idea when you have to get up for work at 6:30am on Monday Morning.

Live and learn people.

Random Thoughts

Saturday, June 12th, 2004

A collection for Saturday Night:

-I have athlete’s foot. ew. but Gold Bond medicated powder is my new best friend.

-In addition to my new clothes, I got two pairs of kickin’ sandals and a pedicure. I got groceries too (told ya I would eat) but I really don’t wanna check my bank balance.

-My grandma got pretty sick, and gave us a bit of a scare. She’s got a viral infection in the membranes around her heart. When they didn’t know what it was, the doctors were testing for Pulmonary Embolism. That night on ER, some guy was being tested for Pulmonary Embolism and died. I didn’t sleep much Thursday night.

-I need a dog worse than badly. When I visited my grandma and the rest of the family on Friday evening, my dog was there, and he was so happy to see me. Then when I left, he gave me “that look.” *sigh*

-Watched In America tonight. Not bad.

-Even when you’re *really full* there’s still room for popcorn.

mmmm idol

Thursday, June 10th, 2004

It’s that time of year again - Canadian Idol has started up. They’ve finally narrowed it down to the final 32.

The show is ending with a little montage at CTV’s fall launch party, featuring the 32 idol potentials, and last year’s top 4: Ryan Malcom, Gary Beals, Audrey de Montigny, and Billy Klippert.

The first 3 look pretty much the same (except Ryan has done something weird and mohawk-ey with his hair)

But Billy - he’s toned up a little… lost a few pounds… chiseled the jaw… I’ve just got two words for you:

TEH HOTTTES!!!!

Retail Therapy

I’m quickly discovering that with the spread of my ass came the shrinkage of my wearable wardrobe.

I’m doing my darndest to kick the flab, but in the meantime, I need something wearable, besides sweats (they aren’t exactly work appropriate).

So I hit the mall this evening, and got a pair of khakis, a sweater, hoodie style jacket, two tanks and two t-shirts - all for around $100. Pretty good if I do say so myself.

Since I’m coming off being recently unemployed, I didn’t exactly have the $100 to spend, but perhaps if I eschew eating this week I’ll kill two birds with one stone!

Ladies Night

Wednesday, June 9th, 2004

Yippee for me, I’ve just won a Ladies’ Night VIP package from SkyBar.

This means me, and up to 9 of my lady friends will be limo’d to SkyBar for a night of fun and debauchery, with the finest male entertainment.

I’ve booked for Wednesday June 30th - keeping in mind that Thursday the 1st is a holiday (a full day off for nursing hangovers!).

Who wants to come?

Also, the limo will be a return ride if the destination is in Vancouver city limits - so if anyone who lives in the city is willing to be our home base, and let everyone meet there (and let me crash there), it’d be much appreciated! Heck, I’ll even buy you a drink :)

A few things…

Tuesday, June 8th, 2004

…that have helped me figure out what exactly I’m doing at this job:

1. Having paid attention in Advertising class.
2. Having paid attention in Marketing class.
3. Learning German. The acronyms here tend to build upon eachother, making them pretty easy to decipher.
4. Logic and Common Sense.

Oh, and we each got a little foam puzzle from marketing today, as part of the new ad campaign launch. How fun :)

Recovery

Ok, So the Flames lost the cup. I’ve gotten over it. Yay Tampa Bay, congratulations.

I need to see the movie saved! like I’ve never needed to see anything before. I haven’t been this excited about a Macaulay Culkin movie, well, ever.

Also, my roommate is an absolute kook. Just wanted to remind everyone of that. Continuing on….

My new favourite TV show is the WB’s Superstar USA. Too bad you can dance JoJo. It’s time to go HomeHome.

For some reason I’m really into a lot of satire these days. Perhaps now that I’m enjoying life, and don’t feel it’s as much of a cruel joke as it appeared to be, I can have much more of a laugh at the expense of others.

But someone please shoot me if I ever start watching Jackass or Punk’d.

Another Day, Another Dollar

Monday, June 7th, 2004

My first day of training went really well. It looks like my job will be even more interesting than I originally thought :)
I’m going to be a busy busy girl for the next few weeks. Eep. I’ve got training and fundraising and parties and family stuff taking up a lot of my time until the end of the month. Thankfully work is so close to home, so commuting no longer wastes such a large part of my day.

And Tampa just scored. On a Power Play. Shit.

I’ve just forgotten anything else I was going to say. I might be back later.

First Day

Thursday, June 3rd, 2004

Ok, first off, when I came home from work today I opened the dishwasher and found a GIGANTIC wolf spider making a break for it. GROSS. I promptly squealed and slammed the dishwasher shut, and turned it on rinse. Stupid springtime in BC and the nasty spiders it brings.

Well, now that we’ve got that over and done with…

My first day at work was awesome. I now work for a large national company that provides a service that everyone uses (that’s as much detail as anyone will get, unless they know me and I tell them in person). Upon arriving, me and my other new colleague were presented with a little goodybag of logo gear: travel mug, pen, notepad, calculator, ruler, badge holder, and our employee incentive card, automatically loaded with $50 to start, spendable at most major retailers.

I was honestly dumbfounded. I’ve NEVER worked ANYWHERE that made a new employee feel so special. The brilliant thing is, I’m not special! They do that for everyone! There’s also a New Employee Orientation Day later this month for the recent group of new-hires. That means a paid day of group activities, company rah rah, and free lunch. Sounds good to me!

The work itself wasn’t all that stimulating - only because the rest of the people hired for my team can’t start until Monday, meaning me and the other girl that started today get to stuff envelopes and do filing today and tomorrow. No matter though. Starting Monday we’ll be segregated from the team for a couple weeks of training in another part of the building, so it’s nice to get to know everyone else I’ll be working with first. From seeing the work I was hired to do, it looks like it’ll be pretty exciting - it’s a busy place.

Speaking of which, the people also seem really great. Super friendly bunch, some of us already bonded over lunch, and everyone seems to have a really easygoing personality. There’s a big deadline today, and it didn’t appear that anyone was really intensely losing their mind at all.

And on top of all that, there’s benefits, an onsite gym for about $16/month, a great cafeteria, company library and it’s a 20 minute walk from home (negating the need for a bus pass).

I’m absolutely exstatic. I finally feel like I’m getting to the place I want (and feel I deserve, for the years of hard work I’ve been putting in and shit I’ve been dealing with) to be.
