More for my benefit than yours, I just wanted a place to store this little snippet.

John Stewart’s Commencement Address

And if you haven’t read it yet, you should - it’s pretty great. Beat’s the spew that Mike Harcourt let loose at my commencement (which I honestly couldn’t remember a damn word of until I looked it up).

On the same note - the best commencement speech I’ve hever heard has to be when the keynote speaker simply read Dr. Seuss’s “Oh the Places You’ll Go.” If you’re having a slow blog-reading day, give that one a go-over as well.

It’s certainly something I can use these days, wondering exactly where I’ll end up next.

So I go outside to water my tomatoes and soak in a bit of the sun, and what do I find attached the roof of my balcony?

This isn’t for your average cinematic waste of 136 minutes though.

I’m just so impressed with Carmen Electra’s Fit to Strip that I had to write about it.

It’s not often that I can find a fitness video that a) has exercises that seem custom designed for me, and b) doesn’t annoy the fuck outta me.

This is a hard workout. I’m not in fantastic shape, but I’m probably at a slightly above average fitness/strength level. And this video kicks my ass. Never before has any program rendered me dripping and quivering (with sweat and exhaustion, perverts) after the first 20 minutes.

Normally I’m not one who tends to rant about fashion trends. I mean heck, if you can pull it off, power to ya. The latest trends may not be for me, but I won’t begrudge anyone their trucker hats or leg warmers or whatever makes them feel good.

But I have to draw the line.

Kitten heeled flip-flops. I have no idea how anyone walks in these. And how dare the inventor of these horrible shoes take something so sacred to summer, and make it so uncomfortable. I just don’t get it. I have a feeling these shoes will be the bane of my existance until at least October.

Am I the only one who things the stupid 2.5 minute musical montages at the ends of most dramatic series shows is getting a little ridiculous?

You can’t watch a show these days without some 10 year old top 40 hit blasting at the end while the protagonists stroll in slow motion through the jail/hospital/cold city streets looking all contemplative and shit.

Enough already Jerry Bruckheimer. We get the point.

I’m home, I’m mostly rested, quite well-fed, and finally….. content.

You see, I was planning on leaving the aforementioned job in short order. In fact, I had made the decision last weekend, and was slowly starting the job search. I suppose now I just need to speed that process up a little :)
Working for a startup has a huge potential for being fun, exciting, challenging, and rewarding. My job stopped being all those things about a month ago. A move to some really nice new office space masked a bit of the discontent - but the shiny/happy illusion was again fading.

I’m glad that the company decided to let everyone go and shut down before they couldn’t pay anyone the hours and severance we were entitled to. There are far too many startups and flakey execs who would’ve let us show up to a locked door and a “too bad so sad” note in a month. I do have to respect my current employers for that.

As much as I’ll miss some of the work that I did, and many of the people I worked with, some things I will definitely NOT miss are the fact that this job taught me the meanings of the words “tension headache” and “migraine headache” as well as the pavlovian fear response that the ringing of my cell phone evoked. I’ve actually changed my ring tone - I hope that helps.

All in all, it wasn’t exactly the plan I had in mind - but things always happen for a reason, and I’ve always landed on my feet. Now it’s just a matter of when. In the meantime, I’ve got a little more time for me right now, time which was sorely lacking before, and I’m enjoying it.

And faster than you can say “start-up company,” the one I was working for folded.

So as of 8am this morning, I find myself in need of a job.

I’m smart and cute, and have a really nice reference letter, so I should be able to find something soon-ish. Nevertheless, anyone who has some leads, it’d be appreciated if you passed them along.

But before that, I’m gonna go to my parents’ place tonight, and pretend like the world doesn’t exist for a few hours.

All I gotta say is it’s a good thing today is yoga day.

Oh, and I’m growing tomatoes on my balcony. This kind and this kind.

Gardening is supposed to be good therapy… right… Right… RIGHT?!?!??!?

Uhm, yah, hi.

I know it’s been a while. I’ve been busy. Monday caught me totally off guard. I’m not ready for this yet - and as nice as the weekend was (happy belated Mothers’ Day to all the moms out there!), I want a do-over. Or at least some extra sleep.

You know, there are those people who can get up on Mondays, ready and willing to tackle the week ahead. Superstars who are at their best and get a jump on things, then run with it.

I am not one of those people. I need to gradually ease into my Mondays. Some strong coffee, a bit of weekend chat with the colleagues, read the online news, deal with the email - just a bit of brain foreplay to get it interested in the tough stuff that’s sure to come later in the day and for the rest of the week. I usually get that to some degree on my Mondays - but not today.

Today I arrived, addled with the remnants of this stupid headcold that just won’t quit. That in itself has made it hard to get my mind focused on the tasks at hand. Also, I was tossed into things almost immediately, dealing with the leftover trauma of the weekend incidents. Not so much of the fun.

If it didn’t mean I’d have to deal with Monday again, I’d totally ask for a do-over of this day too. Instead I’ll plod through, and hope for the best. Only 5 hours until I can escape, get some (more) sleep, and try again tomorrow.

Yah, it’s that one. The one where you post a memory of me in my comments and we both relive the moment in our minds and feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

I did all of yours, and I’m sick, so you’re officially obligated to reciprocate!!!

(ps. I’m a whiny, demanding bitch when I’m sick.)

I got a mosquito bite over the weekend so perhaps it’s West Nile or Malaria.
I also burnt my arm on the iron - and that wound is looking a little inflamed -so perhaps it’s flesh eating disease.
I’ve eaten beef & chicken and have Chinese friends - it could be a combination of Mad Cow, Avian Flu and SARS.
Or perhaps I’m just melodramatic and it’s only a common cold.
Any way you slice it, it sucks all the ass in the world, ever.
My throat feels like my glands have been ripped out by hand with no anesthetic: enter searing pain.
Said glands feel as if they have been replaced by dead hamsters: enter puffiness, swelling and cotton-mouth.
Not to mention the feeling that knitting needles are being jabbed into my ears every time I swallow or move my jaw.
I知 such a baby when I知 sick. I want someone (preferably my mom, but any mom or even living being will do) to bring me hot tea & soup, rub vapo rub on my back & throat, and make sure I知 tucked up tight in a cozy blanket with some good books and trashy daytime TV.
Instead I値l pop enough NyQuil to sedate a small horse and crawl into bed, hoping I値l be well enough to tackle work in the morning.

Oh, and this is long. Deal with it.
