In other news, my digital camera has finally made it to Richmond (at least it’s on this side of the country now). Hopefully I’ll get it tonight :)

So I’m currently tracking some packages from various distributers, and I’m increasingly annoyed by the level of service offered by some internet merchants - or more precicely, large businesses offering significant online services.

Chapters/Indigo Online has completely buggered their online account page. It lists my most recent order as being cancelled. It wasn’t - and I (finally) have the shipping emails, but it resulted in me phoning them about 4 times to confirm the status of my order.

I’m also tracking that package, and an ebay package through Canada Post parcel tracking. Their tracking updates leave a lot to be desired - to say the least.

the internet isn’t a new thing anymore. In my opinion, you can’t keep saying “hehe, oops - our servers/network/computers/etc. are having a problem and our system is bungled right now.” That’s why you have system administrators, and why you don’t launch programs that aren’t ready, or promise services that don’t actually deliver.

It’s time for people to buck up, and start providing the services that they’re promising. My store of patience is all used up. I’m no longer going to say “silly internet thing.” I’m going to start saying “it’s unfortunate that you can’t be bothered to maintain your online services, and you’ve just lost my business.”

Water
You are water. You’re not really organic; you’re
neither acidic nor basic, yet you’re an acid
and a base at the same time. You’re strong
willed and opinionated, but relaxed and ready
to flow. So while you often seem worthless,
without you, everything would just not work.
People should definitely drink more of you
every day.

I just got this new Rooibos Tea - and apparently it will cure whatever ails me:

Rooibos Tea has a tasty flavor. It doesn’t have any caffeine. It relieves depression. It relieves stress. It even relieves constipation, among a wide variety of other problems ranging from insomnia to colic. It helps you relax at bedtime but also keeps you refreshed during the day. The list of benefits goes on and on, but this herbal tea doesn’t have any negative side effects!

My constipation problems and colic should be cleared up in no time!

Brazil Gives Nod to Open Source

So Brazil is considering encouraging the entire country to go to Open Source products. Basically, as a 3rd world country, it makes more sense for them to use free programs in their governments and schools than to pay for Microsoft licenses. They’re also encouraging the rest of the country to do the same. Good for them!

There is one concern that is arising. Some people figure that with the support required for Linux based systems it will cost even more to run than simply buying a licensed product.

I beg to differ.

One thing that Microsoft has actually done well is to spawn generations of people afraid of technology. If it doesn’t have a globe or a window on it - people are scared to use it. It arrives - it works (or does it?) and it only crashes once every couple days.

These same people have been burned by trying to customize their systems, becauase in doing so, they end up modifying or deleting some well-hidden (and in no way essential, except for invasive marketing and bundling purposes) proprietary link that bungles their machine beyond comprehension.

Someone who requires a very specific type of machine will pay just as much for a Linux technician as a Microsoft technician to customize their product.

The difference is, every day users who are willing to learn Open Soure can learn how computers really work, how they’re supposed to work, and how to one again prove that humans are indeed greater than machines - not just luckier every once in a while.

So it pisses me off to no end that my roommate shows up every couple days, runs through here like a tornado complete with the trail of destruction left in her path, then disappears - and I get to either live in filth, or clean up her mess.

Then again, it also means that she’s not here for long stretches of time (and she doesn’t clean up her messes when she’s home anyway).

Perhaps I don’t have it so bad afterall.

There are few things I like more than the smell of new book.

And nothing gets your heart pumping like jumping around the kitchen, trying furiously to dodge the bright red splatter flying off the lid of spaghetti sauce you just dropped.

Oh, and Starbucks has finger puppets of the characters from my favorite Christmas movie ever. Today I got Bumble. If you ever wanted to buy me a Christmas gift, I think I’ll plan on getting the entire collection.

I’m listening to one of my usual online radio stations while I do housework. The show they’re playing right now is called “Galaxy Anthems” and infuses an energenitc (without being obnoxious) mix of dance hits from the 90’s up to the present.

They just played “Set Adrift on Memory Bliss” by PM Dawn. Now there’s some song on by CeCe Penniston that I forget the name of.

And I’m folding laundry.

I feel like the lady in the Swiffer/Devo commercial.

I just picked up my new glasses.

It’s nice to be able to see again (yes, I could see pretty good with my contacts, but I see best with my glasses).

Gee. I forgot how ugly you all are :p
