Tonight, Tonight

Friday, June 13th, 2003

So I told people that I would make myself available for some sort of festivity. Looks like there’s a bit of shin-dig going down already, so I will probably attend that, and If you’d like to give me a pat on the back, or buy me a beer (or preferably both) that would be lovely.

Unfortunately, the venue sucks. It’s at the Ivanhoe (I didn’t choose it) from 8-12. Near the Main Street Skytrain Station.

There’s also a wee gathering tomorrow night at Subeez which will mostly be people from my school. I’ll be there sometime between 10-10:30, so feel free to show up there as well.

I need a vacation

Someone buy me this. Pretty please. Even a small donation to the cause would help!

Poetry

Wednesday, June 11th, 2003

Seems that everyone I know lately writes poetry. Devon and Arwen have theirs posted online. My roommate even takes time out each day to do some writing.

I used to write poetry, what happened? I guess I got too busy writing academically to want to write for myself anymore. Reading also took the same path. I embraced free time activites that included anything but reading and writing. A shame I think, considering I was even published in a Canadian poetry anthology in Grade 12.

So I’ve decided to go out on a limb and post some poetry I found in a drawer the other day. It’s from years ago (circa 1999), and I’m not sure how I feel about it anymore. One is very Avril Lavigne lyric-esque. The other is blatantly racist, and illustrates some of my frustrations at the time living in a very ethnically cliquey invironment - although racism wasn’t the intent as evidenced in the last verse.

So if you have anything else to say about it, other than the comments I’ve already made, have at ‘er.

huh.

I finally got back into the groove of sending out job applications full force today. I sent out a bunch this morning, one of which was for a company who called back not quite an hour later to set an interview time.

Either they’re really desperate, or I’m just that good.

Any which way that works out, I’ll take it!

Bikini Weather

Monday, June 9th, 2003

I was out shopping yesterday at Winners, and found the bestest tankini ever. Any woman will understand that a good swimsuit is worth its weight in gold. Thankfully this one was Winners priced. If you saw me break down in the middle of Sportchek and burst out of the changerooms with a cloud of tears, and various pieces of unflattering swimsuits flying behind me, you would better know my utter glee at finding a good one.

Another thing that goes with summertime is shaving the ol’ stems on a near daily basis. I used to put this off as much as possible, and really loathed shorts weather, but NO MORE! I took a risk and splurged on one of those new Intuition razors. All I can say is WOW. I wouldn’t call it a great shave (although even that overpriced Venus doesn’t give me that), but it’s the fastest my leg shaving process has ever gone.

Now that I’m fully equipped to go bare my bod in semi-private places, I figure it’d be a good time to check out a new gym to get/keep it in shape. World Gym opened up near me not too long ago, and I’m just getting more and more annoyed with the service at my current gym. In I stroll, and the member services chick has nothing more to say than “we’ve got good eye candy, there’s lots of boys here”. Great. You have lots of leering meatheads who will gawk at my monogamous body while I work up a sweat - and I even get to pay more for membership fees! So the bad gym stays. Perhaps I should start going more.

It’s been awhile

Monday, June 9th, 2003

Well, it hasn’t been that long since I’ve updated, but it feels like it. I kept meaning to - but the time and inclination never seemed to match up until now.

My graduation went very well - quite a nice day all around. It was a lovely ceremony (you can still watch it, archived here) and it was nice to have my whole family around to see it. They also showered me with some lovely gifts and flowers. Nothing like diamonds and roses to make a girl feel special!

I’ve been trying to think of a good time to throw a party, but every time I come up with a date, it’s either been done, or it’s not good for a significant number of people. Perhaps I’ll just have a mid-summer soiree instead.

Now I suppose I’ve run out of excuses, and it’s time to get a real job. I’m getting tired of sitting around doing nothing anyway. Not that I do nothing - I manage to keep myself pretty busy - but I don’t do well being unemployed. I’ve always had at least one job since I was 15, and many times two. It just feels unnatural to not be working. So if anyone sees anything interesting out there, forward it on my way!

UPDATE: Due to popular request, I shall make myself available for some sort of festivities on Friday the 13th. Time and place shall be announced soon. Now all you whiners better show up!

Sunshine

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2003

Being that it’s an absolutely gorgeous day, I went out rollerblading.

Being that it’s still absolutely gorgeous, I figured I’d go lay out on the grass and tan.

Unfortunately some fucktard figured it’d be a great time to water the lawn. That shit’s gonna burn, asshat.

Slow News Day

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2003

So for reasons still unknown to myself, I was up at 6:00am again, and watching the BCTV Morning News on Global, because it’s the only thing on that doesn’t suck. The only thing is, they basically repeat the same thing over and over every 20 minutes or so. I don’t think it’s the kind of program that’s meant to be watched start to finish straight through.

But oh the things I’d miss if I tuned out! Despite the fact that I’ve been watching the program for the past two hours, they just introduced this story! Now I feel that I can get on with my day having been introduced to “Lefty Rightie”.

As if Mondays weren’t bad enough

Monday, June 2nd, 2003

I just checked the mail, and got the “Thanks but No Thanks” letter from the really cool company that I wanted a job with so badly and had a really great interview with a couple weeks ago.

I think I’ll go shoot myself in the face.

For Devon

Sunday, June 1st, 2003

Because nobody updates on Sundays.

I really don’t have anything to say, so I’ll ramble off a few random things.

It’s my anniversary! I’ve had a meaningful, loving relationship for 3 whole years! Not that I’m saying it to rub it in to anyone who’s single - it’s more out of surprise that I was able to love and be loved for that long by and with the same person.

I have also developed an affinity for Honey Bunches of Oats with Almonds.

Speaking of honey - mine just arrived.

Have a good day everyone!

(Hope that brightened your day dev!)
