Friday Five

Friday, May 16th, 2003

I’m waiting for a phone call… I guess I’ll do this to kill time.

1. What drinking water do you prefer — tap, bottle, purifier, etc.?
At home I happen to drink water out of my Brita. When not at home, I’m not too picky (not like we live in Mexico or something).

2. What are your favorite flavor of chips?
I’m assuming this means “potato”, not “fish and”, so I’ll say I really like Que Pasa Tortilla Chips (the purple ones) which are ironically made out of corn, not potatoes at all.

The best potato chips ever though, are the ones you get on “Fresh Lays Day” in Calgary. Apparently Calgary has a big Lays plant, and on one day each year they make chips all through the night, and get them to the grocery stores for opening that day. Then you, lucky consumer, can have fresh potato chips made that very day, and DAMN are they tasty.

3. Of all the things you can cook, what dish do you like the most?
Heh, things *I* can cook, you’re joking, right? Seriously though, I’m a fairly terrible cook, but I can make pretty good breakfast (bacon, eggs, toast). Speaking of which…

4. How do you have your eggs?
If they’re with enough toast for sopping up the yolk, then Over Easy - Soft Poached if I’m feeling sassy. Solo eggs I usually have scrambled.

5. Who was the last person who cooked you a meal? How did it turn out?
That would be Devon and her tasty pastas. They always seem to turn out great.

Happy Girl

Friday, May 16th, 2003

I started off the day with a GREAT interview! It lasted an hour and a half - just talking - and I came out feeling that I really gave my best. Now all I can do is hope that my best is what they want!

I then spent a little time having tea with Devon, when a recruiter that I interviewed with a few weeks ago called. She’s got an opportunity that she wants me to interview for on Tuesday!

I swear it never rains, but it pours.

I also saw a beautiful lucky bamboo arrangement on the way home, so I picked that up - hopefully it’ll add to the luck that I’ve been experiencing so far today.

Suit Yourself

Thursday, May 15th, 2003

I went shopping with Devon this morning to find the “perfect suit” and came home with three!!!

Turns out Fairweather was having a big sale - buy the jacket, get the pants or skirt free! And the suits were so beautiful, and fit so well (which is really rare with my body) that I figured, what the heck, and splurged a little bit.

Hopefully my killer look will knock ‘em dead tomorrow morning!

Mornings

Thursday, May 15th, 2003

Some nights, for no good reason at all, I wake up approximately 5 hours after I’ve gone to bed, and cannot get back to sleep. Normally this occurrs at around 3:00 to 4:00am, and normally that really sucks.

But there are those few lucky days, where I got to bed a little later, and the sleep demons grant me an extra hour or so, and I don’t wake up until 5:30 or 6:00am. Keep following, this will make sense soon…

Most days, despite my best intentions I don’t get out of bed until 9:00 or 10:00am - which is still morning, but not exactly early. But those days when I wake not too long before 7:00am, I usually just give in and get out of bed.

And I have discovered through this experience that despite the fact that I am a complete and utter terror to try to wake up most days, I am indeed a morning person! I don’t do anything really productive on these mornings, but I love the feeling of getting up, making coffee, going outside and watering the plants and checking the bird feeder, then sitting down and reading all my online dailies (news, blogs, and otherwise).

I have also developed a soft spot for the BCTV Morning News crew. Not that I didn’t already like Sarah Daniels and Zack Spencer, but now I also feel drawn to that jovial Steve Darling - whose jokes never make any sense no matter how hard he tries, and I can even tolerate that stick-up-the-butt Lynn Colliar who doesn’t even try to get Steve’s jokes.

And after I spend an hour or so in the morning reading and contemplating, I look at the clock and usually think “holy crap, it’s not even 8am yet - I’m not usually ready to get on with the day like this for another few hours” and grab that 2nd cup of coffee and think again how much I love mornings - and how completely wacked out that is.

Thanks

Somebody’s positive vibes worked at least a little bit - I just got a job interview. Now all I need is the interview for the dream job I applied for yesterday and I’ll be *really* happy. So keep ‘em coming folks!

POSITIVE VIBES PLS. ASAP

Tuesday, May 13th, 2003

I have just applied for a job I’m so qualified for it hurts.

I need lots of luck on this one people.

Presale

Tuesday, May 13th, 2003

I was just e-mailed an internet presale password for Blur in Seattle on June 20th.

If you want it, e-mail me. The presale starts May 15th at 9:00am.

Brown Thumb

Tuesday, May 13th, 2003

Despite the fact that I seem to kill every plant that I encounter, I have decided to purchase an herb kit. It’s a pretty little pot that I can grow 6 kitchen herbs in! It even includes the dirt! This is all part of my plan to start cooking heathier and using more natural ingreadients. Hopefully it will live.

I am in a much better mood today than I was a few days ago. Again, for no good reason. Although I haven’t been home for a couple days, perhaps that has something to do with it.

My new roommate is great, we’re very similar people in lifestyle, life-stage, and level of nerdiness. She even used to be a bbs-er (in Ontario). But she’s got damn boxes everywhere. I know she’s been busy at work and stuff - but she comes home every night. Would it kill her to just do a box a day? I’d like to regain use of my dining area. Not that I ever use it, but I’m not liking the fact that it’s so messy. Hopefully this will all change (if not before then) when her contract at work ends in mid-June. Is there a nice way to ask her to clean her shit up and finish unpacking already?

Pissy

Saturday, May 10th, 2003

What’s up with Pissy? Despite the sunshine etc. I am in a bad mood today. I don’t know why, I just woke up on the wrong side of the bed.

I have an indescribable urge to shoot myself in the face.

Instead I will just eat my tuna fish sandwich.

And you know you’ve been sitting at the computer listening to shoutcast too long when it starts to loop.

TGIF

1. Would you consider yourself an organized person? Why or why not?
Hell yeah. I am a freak for organization. It’s neurotic really. I’m not sure where it came from, other than perhaps my mother.

2. Do you keep some type of planner, organizer, calendar, etc. with you, and do you use it regularly?
Let’s see… Daytimer in my purse, Monthly and Weekly calendars in the kitchen, and a 4 month timeposter in my bedroom - as well as the Outlook calendar on my computer. And if I have something I really want to remember, I’ll set my cell phone organizer/alarm to remind me.

3. Would you say that your desk is organized right now?
Surprisingly, it’s getting a little crazy for me, although most would probably envy it. Just goes as further evidence of my neurosis.

4. Do you alphabetize CDs, books, and DVDs, or does it not matter?
I used to alphabetize CD’s, but then I realized that so many of the new ones I was making don’t have names, and don’t have those “spine” (what do you call the back of a cd?) to record a name on thanks to slimline cases.

5. What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever had to organize?
I guess it’s not really a “thing”, but I turn into a total spaz when I’m moving. I can’t handle all of the disorder of boxes everywhere, and nothing being where I remember it.

The Great Outdoors

Wednesday, May 7th, 2003

For the first time in quite a while, I spent the majority of my yesterday enjoying the outdoors. I went rollerblading with Devon, then we popped down to Urban Fare to grab some grub, and Dev made an AMAZING pasta sauce! Thanks for the great lunch hun!

After that, I headed home and almost immediately went right out again to play some catch in the park with my boyfriend. He taught me how to throw not so much like a girl, and we tossed the baseball around until the sun went down.

I’d forgotten how much I love being outside and active :)

It’s all my fault

…that the Canucks lost last night.

I seem to have developed this curse that whenever I wear any sort of Canucks garb (t-shirt, jersey, stickers, whatever) while watching the game, they lose.

I have been making the sacrifice, and looking like less than a fan during the games up until now, and things have been going just fine. But last night I couldn’t help myself, and wore a ‘nucks t-shirt to the game-watching venue.

And they lost. Badly.

And for that I am eternally sorry.

I promise it won’t happen again. Please don’t toss me off the bandwagon.

Just Another Manic Monday

Monday, May 5th, 2003

Happy Cinco di Mayo.

I convocate in exactly one month. Frightening. Keep your eyes peeled for party news.

My weekend was intensely boring. I watched some hockey, watched some movies, went to Ikea - that’s about it.

My new roomie has finally almost finished moving in. She actually slept here last night! It’s nice to have another person here again. I’ve been realizing how much I hate sitting around alone day after day after day. People rarely visit me out in the ‘burbs (hint hint), and when I’m cranky, it always seems like too much effort to go visit them.

Anyway, it’s a beautiful day, and I have some things to do - including sitting out on my patio and having some tea in the sunshine.

How well do you know me?

Inspired by Sue.

Take my quiz, see how well you know me. The first person to get a perfect 10 will get a prize (yet unknown) from me.

Sorry to steal your idea Sue - Immitation is the sincerest form of flattery!
