In other news, I took the new blades out for a trial run today - they’re AMAZING!!! The sidewalk that I had an unfortunate run-in with, not so cool. I lost a chunk of hand, and a piece of shoulder, and got some really cool looking road-rash. But if you think I look bad, you should check out the damage to that hunk of concrete!! heh. All I gotta say is thank goodness for wrist guards and knee pads.

People who have heard me bitch about my boyfriend will have most likely heard me call him the “most selfish person I know” - this is the cause of much of our grief.

Then he does something so uncharacteristic and full of love it reminds me why it works out between us.

He regularly receives perks at work (a national sporting goods retailer) from specific companies if he sells enough of their stuff. One of the latest resulted in him receiving a $500 pair of inline skates for his efforts. He worked really hard to get these skates. They’re really quite an exquisite piece of work.

I met him after work yesterday, and he asked me to grab some stuff out of the trunk. Much to my surprise, I found the pair of rollerblades that I had tried on, fell in love with, and begrudgingly put back on the shelf because being poor and excessively underemployed as of late, I couldn’t afford them.

He sold his brand new expensive skates back to the store, and purchased the skates for me, and a less expensive (and less impressive) pair for himself so that we could go rollerblading together.

How sweet is that?

So I was going to do a cleanse this week - I started yesterday even - to try to jump start my sluggish blah-ness that I’ve been building up since mid March. This morning I gave up.

It’s not that I fully gave up though, I just discovered that a cleanse isn’t for me. I discovered something about myself that I’ve suspected for quite some time. I love food, all food. The flavours, textures, etc. are one of those simple pleasures that I really enjoy. So instead of doing the cleanse, I’m just going to learn how to cook.

I think a lot of my problems have arisen from the fact that I was eating nothing but pre-prepared crap. I could cook *anything* if it came out of a box. BUT NO MORE! I am going to cook real food - the kind they call “from scratch”. Yikes, I scare myself.

So feel free to e-mail me your favourite recipies - I’ll try anything!

Have you ever noticed that all of the “good ideas” seem to have vanished? Instead of new and innovating products, we are seeing the old and tired junk of yesteryear trumped up with fancy new names. A few examples:

They used to be referred to as hotel shower caps, now they’re Saran Quck Covers.

Once we were enthralled by Chicken Nuggets, now Jason Alexander prompts us to enjoy KFC Boneless Wings.

Apparently, the world of food is suffering the most, because another culprit is the P’zone. Nevermind the fact that “part pizza, part calzone” is actually all calzone, if they call it something different, and put someone trendy in the commercials, perhaps we’ll all clamour for this “new” culinary delight.

Do you have any examples of re-invented crap that drive you nuts?

I have just come to the realization that I am a bum. I do not take well to the life of a bum. Bums can feel okay sitting around all day, watching tv, eating convenience food, and accomplishing as little as possible. Like a bum, I engage in all of these activities on a (now) daily basis. Unlike a bum, I am not okay with this.

Unfortunately, getting out of this state requires me to step out and place myself into the new and slightly more unfriendly realm of “rejected”. Not only that, but I will not solely be rejected, I will be a rejected bum. I have had a job posting that I’m probably mostly qualified for sitting here for 2 days, and I still haven’t applied, because I’m just that terrified of becoming “rejected bum” instead of the prefixless and more ordinary form of bum.

I seem to have lost any and all motivation that I thought I once had. It is not a good thing.

Help?

I’m not entirely sure how to feel about the Canucks right now. Before you bandwagon riders call me a traitor, or you non-fans call me a bandwagon-jumper-on-and-offer I will say that I’ve always been a fan, just not a fanatic. I always hope for the best, but I am a realist.

In any case, I’d love to see them win tonight, but I just don’t think they can. If they’re famous for anything, it’s being a pack of choke artists. Like, remember just over a week ago when all they had to do was win one lousy game to keep the division championship that they’d practically had a lock on through the second half of the season? I’d love to see them win - I just don’t know if it can happen.

All of this musing, however, will not stop me from consuming copious amounts of beer and chicken wings and acting like a general fool for a few hours tonight. Heck, it’s probably the last chance I’ll have to do that this season - unless I tune into the golf channel.

I have been so busy ever since I finished up school on Monday - and yet I don’t really have anything to say. Go figure.

As a nice complement to the end of school, I ended up with Bon Jovi tickets to his show in Seattle for the day after my last exams. I’ve just gotta say, he was ABSOLUTELY FRICKIN AMAZING! That man could have played three 2 hour concerts and had enough material and energy to keep the audience going for all of it - but the 2 hours that he did play were simply indescribable. I’ve gotta say it was the best concert I’ve attended to date.

One thing I hate at stadium concerts is when the artist tries to play it like a small venue and sits and chats with the audience (which nobody can hear anyway because of the echo) or plays a bunch of obscure crap that nobody knows. When I’m forking out big bucks for a big production, I better damn well be entertained - and Jon Bon totally delivered! I could go on and on for days about just how much he rocked, but I think I’ll spare you the details. Suffice to say, the show was great.

We stopped on the way home at Edaleen Dairy - a word to anyone who’s going across the line: stop there! It’s a tad out of the way at the Aldergrove/Lynden crossing, but if you like ice cream, it’s worth it! It’s a dairy farm, and from the cows to the ice cream, it’s all done there - and you can taste the difference! I recommend the Fudgy Wudgy, or Raspberry Cheesecake.

And in other news, my baby brother (the one in the Navy) got a contract, so he’s off to Esquimalt at the end of the month to work port security. If anyone who reads this happens to be near there - no corrupting the new kid who bears a slight resemblance to Justin Timberlake (circa 2000)!

I handed in my last exams today. That means I am done. Not the kind of “two weeks off until summer semester/job” done that I’ve been used to for the majority of my life - just done. My degree requirements are complete, and I convocate on June 5. Until then, I have no plans, just done.

I am frightened.

You know you’ve been a student too long when you are willing to drink old, stale, and/or cold coffee - and have even built up enough of a tolerance to it that you can call it “not bad.”

Also, I need a really basic online portfolio page where I can post my resume and some other cool stuff I’ve done. Anyone out there willing to design it in exchange for dinner? I need this done by the end of the month (ideally).

Ok, enough procrastination - I’m almost finished !@#$!@#$!@#%

I haven’t done one of these in a while, and it’s not quite Friday here yet, but whatever.

1. What was the first band you saw in concert?
Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness Tour 1996. The tickets were a birthday present from my boyfriend at the time, and boy was I ever pissed off when the drummer bit it and they had to postpone the show for 3 months.

2. Who is your favorite artist/band now?
Oh so many, my tastes change seemingly by the minute (and no current artists really have any staying power) but I’ll say the Aaron Pritchett Band, cuz Aaron’s my friend, and he’s great.

3. What’s your favorite song?
I can’t say I have one favorite song - there’s really a soundtrack to my life so to speak, and there are many songs that stand out as important to me. I guess I can toss a few out:
Andy Griggs - She’s More
Barenaked Ladies - If I fall (live version)
Aaron Pritchett - You Can’t Say that I didn’t Love You, & Perfectly Blue
Orbital - Halcyon & On & On (Live with Belinda Carlisle & Bon Jovi)
Bon Jovi - Bed of Roses
Silence - Sarah McLachlan (Paul Oakenfold Remix)

4. If you could play any instrument, what would it be?
I can play the piano, but haven’t for about 4 years, mostly because I haven’t lived with my piano for that time. If anyone wants to band together to get me a really great present one day, an electric piano would be swell (just because I can move it).

5. If you could meet any musical icon (past or present), who would it be and why?
There isn’t really any deep reason behind this, but I think meeting Sir Elton would be just divine.

Courtesy of Mike Bullard:

“American’s two favorite sports: Football & Betting on it”

I just thought of that because Sue mentioned football in her post earlier.

As for other news, things are looking better now, crisis averted - thanks for all your support everyone!

Things still suck (in case any of you wondered) but someone said one of the most encouraging things to me last night. So when you’re feeling blue (as I am) - try to remember this:

Don’t worry if life is cruel to you - that just means it owes you something really great.
